There is no canonical source for this family, no mt202 → mt205 pair, and no pair into the customer payment family (mt202 → pacs.008 or mt103 → pacs.009). An MT202 carrying /RETN/ or /REJT/ in :72: is detected as mt202-retn or mt202-rejt instead.
How fields map
MT202/MT205 to pacs.009.
:20:becomes the message id and the instruction id;:21:(the related reference) becomes the end-to-end id.:32A:becomes the settlement date and amount.:52a:becomes the debtor institution,:58a:the creditor institution. When:52a:is absent, the sender in the FIN header is used.:53a:/:54a:(MT202 only) become the reimbursement agents;:56a:the first intermediary;:57a:the creditor agent.:72:/INS/lines become previous instructing agents;/ACC/and/INT/lines become instructions for the creditor agent and the next agent.- Cover payments. When sequence B is present (MT202COV/MT205COV, flagged
{119:COV}in block 3), it becomes the underlying customer credit transfer: ordering customer, beneficiary, their agents, remittance and instructed amount.
pacs.009 to MT202/MT205. The reverse. A pacs.009 with an underlying customer credit transfer becomes a COV message with sequence B and {119:COV}; the target id (mt202 or mt205) chooses the message type. A pacs.009 with several transactions becomes one MT message per transaction.
Where information is lost
| Situation | Warning |
|---|---|
pacs.009 needs a creation time and a settlement method (INDA) that MT does not carry | MISSING_REQUIRED_DEFAULTED |
No :52a:: the debtor institution is taken from the FIN header | MISSING_REQUIRED_DEFAULTED |
Reimbursement agents going to MT205 (no :53a:/:54a:), a third reimbursement agent, intermediaries after the first, a separate debtor agent | DROP_AGENT |
| Customer-side fields at the top level of a pacs.009 (instructed amount, charges, remittance, regulatory reporting) | DROP_FIELD |
| pacs.009 payment type information, settlement time indication, ultimate parties and agent accounts | DROP_FIELD |

Conventions
- FI legs are not customers. The debtor and creditor of a pacs.009 are institutions. Customer parties appear only inside a cover payment's underlying transfer.
:21:is the end-to-end id. For bank-to-bank transfers the related reference identifies the underlying transaction, so it maps to the end-to-end id;:20:is the instruction id.- Bulk. Several MT202 or MT205 messages in one request become one pacs.009 with one transaction each.
- Sibling detection. A bare MT205 without its FIN header detects as
mt202. Send the envelope orfrom=mt205to keep the type.
